A Loner's Life

[Jasper]

The silver tabby padded around the outskirts of the fence, searching for feild mice in the tall grass. Leafbare was approaching and usually he stayed around the barn so when it snowed he could take cover up in the hayloft. Sometimes, there were other loners taking shelter too. He steered clear of the Twolegs, who didn't really even seem to care that he was around. Sighing, he paused his search to groom his white chest fur, combing some strands of grass out of it.

Roadkill was wondering the territory near the white fences. He was bounding up and down the hillside, trying to meet another cat. The last time he met other cats, they weren't so friendly, so today he wanted to search for someone else.
He poked his head above a hill, and clawed his way up it. There was a scent drifting by... The scent of another cat! Roadkill quicky scrambled himself to a tree that had branchess hanging right on top of the fence. He sniffed again, the scent was closer! Excitement raced through his bodyas he crawled low against the grass.
He always pretended to be a different animal when he met someone, and this time, he was going to be a snake.

[Jasper]

Jasper froze, his tongue still in midlick on his chest as he heard the rustling of grass. A grin spread across his muzzle. He was upwind of it, and he knew it could smell him even though he couldn't smell it. He lowered down into a hunter's crouch, thinking that it was prey. He slinked forward soundlessly, pausing when he caught its scent. He straightened up, a puzzled expression on his face as he saw a cat's back above the grass, wriggling back and forth as if it were an adder.

Flicking one ear back, he recoiled slightly, one paw tucked against his chest and the grin gone from his face.

"Erm...are you having convulsions?"

he asked, slightly rudely, as if this cat was mentally ill and having a seizure.

Roadkill's heart raced. 'I was right!' He thought. He stopped wriggling in the grass, then hissed, "No! I am a snake!" He moved his tail back and forth like a snake would do, and he kept sticking his tongue out, making little hisses.

The silver tabby sat, wrapping his tail around his paws and staring, rather amused, at the cat. Surely he was kidding? Tilting his head, he opened his mouth to speak again, a smile hinting at the sides of his mouth. "Hmm. I guess I was wrong then." he started grooming his white paw casually, though not taking his eyes off of the writhing tom. "I could've sworn you were a cat." A small smirk crossed his face despite himself, and he watched the cat with much interest. well this is new. you don't often get a species confused cat everyday.

Roadkill got up to his paws, really slowly. "Meow!" He meowed loudly. "Guess what I am now?" He asked, nbut he didn't wait to hear a reply. "The name's Roadkill!" He purred, handing out his paw to the other loner, expecting him to grap it with his tail. "Are you a spy? I'm lost." Roadkill tilted his head, then scratched his missing ear with his hind leg, his torn up claws unsleathed.

He rolled his eyes at the tom. He didn't answer when the tom meowed. "Well then, hello Roadkill. I'm Jasper." he watched the tom out of the corners of his eyes, his head turned ot the side as the tom stuck out a mangled paw. He didn't touch it. Don't want to get my paws all...dirty. flicking his ears back, he meowed a response. "Spy? who would I be spying for? [/color]

"Humans!" Roadkill replied. He stuck his paw back to his side, and he wrapped what was left of his tail, around his paws. "There used to be this gang of cats at this place called uhhh..... Well... I forgot. But I was a SPY there! Man it was a long time ago! And then I met Road! She's a beutiful creature all right... But I havent seen her in moons. Have you? She's a long, black, rocky line in the earh..." He pause to flinch when a fly landed on his nose. "Bastard." He muttered.

He tilted his head, still puzzled. His brow furrowed as he listened to Roadkill's words. Humans...? he must mean the Twolegs. he didn't go any further, just nodding his head as if he understood the cat's words. He then heard him ranting on about a "road". He leaped to his paws, his eyes wide.

"Are you mental?"

The road, or Thunderpath as the Clan cats called it, was where the monsters were!

"Cats get killed there! How can you" he shivered at the mere thought of his next words. "Love such a thing?"
