Oakshadow trotted into the Warrior's Den with a full belly and, once again, four uncomfortably heavy paws. He halted just inside the entrance. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything too urgent," he began, scuffling his paws, clearly embarrased. "I just feel like I need a nap. I just came back from a quick hunt around the territory on my own." Oakshadow stated, making the last sentence sound like an afterthought. He trotted quickly - still embarrased that he burst in like that - to the back of the den and, finally, his bed.
Oakshadow lay down, resisting the temptation to whimper like a kit. He had also taken the dawn patrol that morning, hoping to see Rainface at the stream in RiverClan territory. He had sniffed at the border, hoping to find her scent. He found it, but it was stale. Oakshadow had held onto her scent in case it was a few days until he saw or scented his RiverClan friend again. He wondered, certainly not for the first time that season, if she thought of him in the same longing way he thought of her. Oakshadow shut his eyes, picturing the beautiful young RiverClan warrior perfectly as if she were standing right in front of him in the den. Suddenly he felt tears coming. I'm already embarrased as it is. he thought bitterly to himself. But that didn't stop the tears of his sorrow. He turned his face away from the other ShadowClan cats and covered his eyes with one paw.
Oakshadow then, and only then, began to silently weep to himself, still imagining Rainface inside his mind perfectly.
